It’s snowing in Ireland, it’s freezing, I am freezing…but I kind of like this weather. I watch lots of films, have constantly my two hot water bottles with me and when I am really sick of being at home, I go out for a walk by the sea and it is wonderful.
And while I am enjoying all of this, I am thinking how it would be If I were in Japan…don’t ask why I am thinking about this…maybe because recently I was flicking through my books and found “Spring Snow” by Yukio Mishima
So here is what I would do if I were there:
I would go for a visit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo currently on show an exhibition on “Luxury on fashion reconsidered”. The exhibition examines our changing times and values from the perspective of luxury, through fashion—a field that sensitively reflects human desire and the trends of society. Featured are some 100 fashion creations dating from the 17th century to current times, carefully selected from multiple perspectives and representing everything from visual luxury to a more personal, intellectual luxury, closer to the spirit of play.
Then a visit to the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazaka, the building looks very interesting and current on show there is a large-scale exhibition of Olafur Eliasson Your chance encounter in which Eliasson is exploringin how 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa—an art museum designed with the functions of a new generation of museums—fulfills a social role as a museum opened to the city. Through the exhibition, he is re-proposing the art museum, not simply as a facility for viewing art in a context removed from society but as a public space having the potential to deeply engage in the society and the urban environment.
After a three year closure and £17.2m refurbishment, the Ulster Museum in Norther Ireland reopens with a Sean Scully retrospective.
